Three-Phase Generators
A three-phase generator has three conductor wires that run simultaneously while alternating in sequence so that one wire is always at peak power while the others are lower. This alternating sequence ensures a constant and stable power supply, and it also provides a much stronger power supply than single-phase generators.
Specifically, most three-phase generators produce 120/208V or 277/480V. If you’re confused about why the 120/208V for three-phase is lower than the single-phase 120/240V, keep in mind that the three-phase generator has three wires. Each wire draws less current than a single-phase wire, but cumulatively, the three lines provide a much higher voltage than the single-phase, making three-phase ideal for powering heavy industrial loads.
